Dako Flying Angels

GYMNASTS from Carlton le Willows were flying high after appearing on the iconic children’s TV show Blue Peter as part of their Sport Relief programme.

Year 7s William Pritchard and Preston Busby, Year 9 students William Redfern, Thomas Primrose, Sonny Chapman and Elliot Parr from Year 10 all form part of the Dako Flying Angels gymnastic squad which appear on the TV show at the end of March.

Their appearance followed a major gymnastics festival in London at the end of last year, where the Dako team’s skills and talents were spotted by TV bosses and featured on Newsround.

But just weeks before the TV appearance, thieves stole the club van, containing thousands of pounds of equipment, putting their Blue Peter show and many other scheduled shows in jeopardy.

Year 10 gymnast Elliot Parr, who also plays ice hockey, staged a sponsored ice marathon – skating the length of a marathon around the Nottingham Ice Arena.

And local business Frank Keys, also pledged to donate £1,000 to help Dako buy replacement equipment. Money raised during Sixth Form Effort Week at the Academy will also go to boost funds for Dako, which has a club ethos of developing team spirit and trust amongst its members.
