How do I apply for a place at CLW on transition from primary school to secondary school?
To be considered for a place at Carlton le Willows, you must complete an admissions application form from your local education authority. You will be asked to name four schools in order of preference – further information can be found at http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/education/school-admissions. If you are successful in gaining a place at your first preference school, none of your other choices will be considered. For entrance to the Academy in September 2020 the closing date is 31st October preceding admission to secondary school.
How are places allocated?
For 2020 our student intake number for Year 7 is 226. These places will be allocated based on our Admissions Criteria which can be seen on our Admissions Policy.
What if I live outside of your catchment area?
Students living outside the catchment area who go to one of our feeder primary schools have priority over children attending other schools out of catchment. Places will then be filled based on geographic proximity to the school, measured as a straight line distance from your home address to the main reception office.
Will my son/daughter get a place?
As an oversubscribed school we always receive more applications than we have school places. However, if you submit your preference form by the deadline, live within our catchment area and put Carlton le Willows as your first choice, you are almost certain to be allocated a place at the school. In the event of over subscription, those living nearest to the school will be given priority. Distance measurements are made ‘as the crow flies’ from home address to the main reception.
When will I hear if I have a place at CLW?
You will be advised by the Local Authority which school has been allocated for your son/daughter on National Allocation Day which is 1 March each year.
What happens if I am offered a place?
Once a place is granted we will request proof of residency and ask that offer to be accepted within 14 days. Offers of a place can be withdrawn if not accepted within 14 days or if offer has been made on the basis of inaccurate information. Examples include fraudulent applications, intentionally misleading applications or a false claim of residence in the catchment area.
What happens if my son/daughter does not get offered a place at CLW?
If you are unsuccessful in getting a place at Carlton le Willows on National Allocation Day, you will be placed on our waiting list, which is ranked based on our admissions criteria.
You will also have the opportunity to appeal against this decision to an independent appeals panel.
Appeals timeline for September 2020 Admissions
In order to lodge an appeal please obtain a Notice of Appeal form from Dawn Richardson on 0115 9565008 ext 250 or by emailing email@example.com and return this by Friday, 3 April 2020. Appeals received after this deadline will be heard within 40 days of the deadline where possible or within 30 school days from the date of receipt.
You will be notified of the time and date of your appeal by 29 April 2020.
Stage 1 of the appeals will be held in the evening of Wednesday, 13 May 2020 and stage 2 will be held on Thursday 14 May 2020 and Friday 15 May 2020.
You will be notified in writing of the outcome of your appeal by 22 May 2020 at the latest.
