Sports Personality of the Year 2018
Year 11 table tennis player Max Stevens has been crowned Carlton le Willows' Sports Personality of the Year 2018.
The 15-year-old – now ranked in the top 10 of British players – has already represented his country, winning 10 of his 12 singles matches in an England shirt and is determined to take his sporting career further.
Max was one of a number of students honoured for their sporting achievements during the Academy's annual SPOTY event, which this year was attended by table tennis player and Paralympic gold medallist Will Bayley MBE.
Alongside Max as SPOTY 2018 other students to be recognised with awards included: Ethan Turnbull – MACE Award for the student most likely to become a professional; Jed Ryan – Team Player of the Year; Anna Hutson – Unsung Hero Award; Emma Litherland - Up and Coming Sports Personality of the Year Award and Paul Senior – Elite Performance Award.
Awards recognising Outstanding Achievement Outside of School went to Charlie Clarke, for hovercrafting, while Year 11 swimmer Elspeth Moran won the Laura Jackson Award.
There were also a number of Character Counts awards recognising outstanding character traits such as kindness, optimism, curiosity and enthusiasm.
