Student's charity head shave

Kind-hearted Academy Sixth Former Lucy Peacock is braving this elements this winter after having her head shaved for charity – raising more than £900 in the process.

Year 13 Lucy decided to have her locks cut off to raise money for the Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust – a national charity that rebuilds confidence after cancer by taking young people on sailing trips.

The charity is close to the 17-year-old's heart as her girlfriend Ellie Blackman has been battling bone cancer since primary school and is one of many teenagers to benefit from the charity’s sailing trips.

And Lucy said that is why she chose that particular cause: “I knew that if I fundraised for that charity then lots of young people with all different types of cancer would benefit.

“I’d been wanting to raise some money for a while and was trying to think of something that would have an impact. And I thought shaving all my hair off would probably get people’s attention.”

Fellow sixth formers, Academy students and members of staff have all been donating to Lucy’s cause, along with her family and friends via cash donations or Lucy’s Go Fund Me page.
