Carlton le Willows Academy

Nothing but the best

Award-winning author visits Academy

Award-winning author Alan Gibbons spent the day sharing his writing skills with students at Carlton le Willows Academy.

As well as leading an assembly for the whole of Year 7, the inspirational writer also held a series of creative writing and reading rewards workshops.

Mr Gibbons' visit was the start of a week-long series of activities at Carlton le Willows to mark World Book Day 2019, including a Drop Everything and Read session (DEAR) where students in Years 7 - 9 will stop work to read for 10 minutes.

World Book Day will begin with a ‘Booky breakfast’ in the Academy library, there will be a house quiz for all form groups to take part in and quotes from the beginning of numerous novels have been put up around school with staff and students alike challenged to identify the book titles.

Throughout the week, book lovers are also in with the chance of winning the Academy’s Golden Ticket competition. Two popular fiction books within the school library contain a lucky ticket, with a special prize going to the student who loans the ‘winning book’.
