'True hero' Oliver is Pride of Gedling

Academy student Oliver Lee has been dubbed a ‘true hero’ after being named Gedling’s Young Person of the year in recognition of his efforts to help save a local resident’s life.
Year 11 Oliver took to the stage at the Pride of Gedling Awards 2019 to collect the Dylan Barker Young Person Award – an accolade celebrating young people who make an outstanding contribution to their communities.
The reward is in light of Oliver’s efforts after he stepped in to help a local woman who had fallen. He pyt her into the recovery position and administered vital first aid until paramedics arrived.
And Army cadet Oliver was joined on the winner’s platform by table tennis coach Harvey Stevens, who received the Pride of Gedling Community Servant award on the same night.
Harvey was being rewarded for his work at Carlton le Willows where he has helped harness the students’ love of table tennis, coaching and developing the sport and helping the Academy become home to a national standard table tennis centre.
