Nothing but the best

Gedling MP accepts climate change petition

Student Council members Alisha and Shahnaz Begum deliver a petition on behalf of all Carlton le Willows students to Gedling MP Vernon Coaker, calling for action to be taken against climate change.

The petition, signed by students from all year groups, was a whole school response to the youth group Youth Strike 4 Climate’s calls for a walkout protest aimed at showing world government’s the level of anger about the state of the planet.

At the same time as the proposed national walkout, Academy staff and students stopped their regular lessons to engage in a frank and open discussion about climate change, its causes and talk about possible action for change.

A letter detailing these talks and suggestions was then drafted by science teacher Mr Marshall and handed to Mr Coaker, along with the petition, at his constituency offices in Arnold.

The Gedling MP has now pledged to raise the issue in Parliament once again in a bid to get Academy students' voices heard.
