ATHLETES from Carlton le Willows achieved great success in the Gedling Athletics Championships with 17 students earning a place in the County Championships last month – and setting three new records for Gedling in the process.
Year 9 athletes Paul Senior and Oliver Wilson set new records for Gedling district with Paul recording a time of 11.03 in Junior Boys 100m and a distance of 5.49m in Junior Boys Long Jump, while Oliver recorded a time of 43.25 in Junior Boys 300m.
A host of boys and girls from Years 8, 9 and 10 made up four teams representing Carlton le Willows in a range of track and field events at the district championships in May. Athletes needed to finish either first or second place to be guaranteed a place in the Gedling team competing against other secondary schools in the County Championships in June.
Special mention must go to Ella Mehew who competed in a higher age group, against Year 10 students, achieving 1st place in both triple jump and hurdles.
