Carlton le Willows Academy

Nothing but the best

Outstanding GCSE results!

YEAR 11 students at Carlton le Willows once again made staff and parents proud celebrating impressive GCSE results for 2017 – with an increase in grades for the third year running.

A total 79% of students gained five or more GCSEs at grade 4 (the new C) including English and Maths, with an impressive 28% securing A*/A or equivalent (up 7% on last year).

Strong results in core subjects were of particular note this year, with results in English, Maths and Science all significantly above national average. In English 33% of students gained 7 (A) or above, 32% achieved 7 and above in Maths and more than 1 in 4 students secured an A*/A in Science.

This year was the first time students were graded the new 9, which is designed to identify the very highest achievement so staff were delighted that in Maths alone, Academy students recorded 19 grade 9s – equating to almost 1 in 10 of the results.

As ever there were significant individual successes including Isabelle Murray who secured three 9s, three A*s and an A* with distinction and Bilaal Khan who achieved five  A*s, three 9s and two A grades.

Also celebrating great results was Laura Deliu who got four A*s among her eight strong GCSEs despite being diagnosed with cancer in Year 11.

Headteacher Mr Weaver said: “Hard work, dedication and determination are needed to secure good results at GCSE. Every year we ask a lot of both students and staff and so I’m delighted for all our young people who have shown great strength of character and worked to achieve these excellent results.”
