A Level Success

YEAR 13 students at Carlton le Willows Academy are celebrating getting their results – and securing places at top universities across the country - after a year of disruption caused by the pandemic.
This year has seen many students securing places at their first choice destination everything from Politics at Oxford University and Medicine at Manchester to Engineering at Bristol University and Journalism at Sheffield.
As always there were some notable individual successes with seven students getting a clean sweep of three A stars. This included the top performing girl and boy at GCSE – Ben Fletcher and Leah Rich. Leah has secured herself a place at Oxford University to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics, while Ben will go to Leeds University to study Film.
Among those celebrating today were triplets Jak, Josh and Megan Kane with a raft of A* and A grades between them. Jak received a clean sweep of A*s and will now study Marketing and Management at Durham University, while Josh plans to go to Sheffield University to study Chemistry. Megan got 2 A*s and an A securing herself a place to study Architecture also at Sheffield. In fact Megan must have nerves of steel as she also sat - and passed - her driving test on results day morning!
Head of Sixth Form Mrs Emsley said: “"This year has been a year like no other with even more challenges for our Year 13 students than usual, so I am delighted to see so many of them achieving their goals and securing a place at their first choice university.
“Throughout all the disruption and uncertainty they have faced, this cohort of 2021 have shown such resilience, determination and courage and I am so proud of all they have achieved.”
