'Brilliant' Author Visit
AVID readers from schools across the county enjoyed a Brilliant Book Award author visit, hosted by Carlton le Willows Academy alongside Inspire Library Services.
Author Dan Smith spoke about his shortlisted novel Nisha’s War, to an audience of Academy students along with students from six visiting schools, as part of their involvement in the Brilliant Book Awards.
The awards scheme sees six shortlisted books read and reviewed by students in schools across Nottinghamshire. Carlton le Willows’ book club meets weekly (Monday lunchtime for Year 8 and Tuesday lunchtime for Years 7 and 9) where they read and discuss the shortlisted books. Students will review each title and then vote on the book they want to put forward as the favourite book at Carlton le Willows.
As part of the scheme students from Carlton le Willows will visit Arnold Hill Spencer Academy to meet author Darren Simson talking about his shortlisted book Furthermoor and also take part in a workshop at the University of Nottingham run by PGCE English students.
Thank you to our visiting readers from Magnus Church of England School, Arnold Hill Spencer Academy, Rushcliffe Spencer Academy, Ellis Guilford School, The Becket School and Outwood Academy.
