Carlton le Willows Academy

Nothing but the best

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Carlton le Willows became a DofE Central Directly Licensed Centre in summer 2017 – and the number of students taking the Duke of Edinburgh Award are growing.

Duke of Edinburgh (D of E) Bronze Award is a practical qualification in which candidates must demonstrate their character and ability through volunteering, skills demonstration, practical capability and a short overnight expedition to demonstrate leadership and independence.

Students opting to take Sports Science at KS4 will take part in the D of E Award. The bronze award is the ideal starting point for those who wish to develop their independence, self-belief, self-confidence and develop leadership, problem-solving, presentation and communication skills – all qualities to which colleges, universities and employers are all attracted.

Due to high demand, the Academy has now extended provision to the Silver DofE Award, which will be delivered over a 12-week period (two blocks of six) in Core PE in Year 10. To enter this level, students need no previous experience and can registers as a direct entrant. The Silver Award moves on from Bronze, culminating in a three day, two night expedition and extended Physical, Volunteering and Skill sections.
